DNA My Dog

From that spark of inspiration, DNA My Dog was born in 2008. Although the primary motivation was to help satisfy pet parents’ curiosity about the ancestry and heritage of their four-legged family member, there are many other benefits to DNA testing. By understanding the different breeds found within the genetic make-up of a dog, owners can better understand the potential personality traits and health issues to look out for, as well as how to best train and feed the dog.
The technology behind canine DNA testing was developed as a by-product of the Dog Genome Project, which was undertaken to better understand the potential for the dog genome to fight human cancer. Since that project’s completion in 2005, scientists have discovered segments of the DNA molecule that produce differences between various breeds of dogs, such as the shape of the tail, size, or color. Thus, the ability to finally answer the question, “Who’s your doggie?”, has arrived!
