"UTIs in dogs are infections of the urinary tract, similar to urinary tract infections in humans. Most dog urinary tract infections are caused by GI or skin bacteria that make their way into the urinary tract. Symptoms include bloody urine, licking around the urinary area, accidents and pain during urination. Treatment for bacterial UTIs usually involves a course of antibiotics and possibly pain medication for the associated discomfort. Some dogs are more prone to UTIs than others, and they are generally more common in female dogs. UTIs can also occur more frequently in dogs with underlying or chronic health conditions."
"You do need a prescription for dog UTI medicine. Your vet can determine the cause of your dog's UTI and, if necessary, perform a bacterial culture to determine the best medication and course of treatment. Your vet may also suggest preventative measures like prescription urinary dog food or urinary support supplements. Chewy carries a wide range of dog UTI medications and preventatives. Simply order online and let us handle everything else, including contacting your vet and shipping right to your front door!"
